Due to low participation, I feel RFR must cut losses now before investing more into a losing endeavor.
1) Registration is down 80% in comparison to Gap N' Back at the one month to race mark.
2) 55% registered in the last month for Gap N' Back. If we have the same rate of registration procrastination, Swatoberfest would not come close to breaking even, much less donate to our cause.
3) Adjusting the only dynamic expenditures that are dependent upon number of entries (shirts and portable toilets), RFR would lose ~$730 if the race were held as planned with the additional 55% registration. That loss does not account for food and water costs.
Assuming a full insurance refund, canceling now means RFR has already lost $446.02 in social media and postcard mailing promotions and fees for registration and Paypal costs. I will consider this loss as the cost of a tutorial between the success of Gap N' Back vs the failure of Swatoberfest. RFR however, cannot afford to pay more for that lesson.
Although I am disappointed in Swatoberfest's outcome, I am not deterred. We will host Gap N' Back next year and hopefully other events as well.
For all those that have registered, a refund check will be in tomorrow's mail.
Thanks to all those dedicated to volunteering and registered for racing.
Suicide... NO longer should it hide. Shine light and fight!
How many people don't know any other bikers or runners or boaters in the area willing to race as a team with you? Sign-up for Swatoberfest Free Agency! Signing up for Free Agency is free. RFR will make teams the order in which they are registered and then send an introduction email to that Free Agent team. At that point, the team would follow the normal registration process.
You can have fun for a good cause and meet new people that like being outside... like you!
